At the 5G-A Intelligent Packet Core Industry Roundtable sponsored by the IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group and China Mobile Office and held by Huawei during MWC Shanghai 2024, participants shared the latest practices and achievements on 5G-A differentiated experience monetization in uplink live streaming, HD video on demand, and sports event live streaming, and discussed on more refined monetization scenarios and operations.
5G development is in full swing, which brings about increasingly diversified data services demanding differentiated experiences. In such circumstances, experience monetization has become an inevitable trend, and the 5G-A differentiated experience assurance service comes into being. This service can accurately evaluate user experiences and offer differentiated experience assurance on demand. It also displays a “In VIP guarantee” icon on users’ devices and shows experience assurance effects to them. In this way, this service can deliver user-perceived experience assurance, and realize closed-loop service experience monetization.
Wang Zhiqin, Vice President of CAICT, noted that after five years of 5G commercial operation in China, the number of 5G subscribers has surged to 890 million. The rapid development of 5G networks creates new demands for differentiated experiences, and core network intelligence plays a critical role in delivering that differentiated user experiences. Meanwhile, the IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group is fostering industry collaboration in implementing 5G network intelligence to expedite service and function development.
Duan Xiaodong, Vice President of China Mobile Research Institute, stressed the role of the intelligent core network as the bedrock of the China Mobile’s business strategy and the primary catalyst for network transformation and convergence efforts. Intelligence is poised to become a vital direction for future network development. With the core network serving as a pivotal hub of the entire mobile network, its intelligent operations is a key step to drive the penetration of intelligence throughout the communications network. We envision collaborative efforts among all stakeholders to foster innovative products and a thriving ecosystem. By integrating networks and intelligence, we will truly unlock the vast potential of thousands of industries.
Feng Zheng, Chief Expert at China Mobile, expounded on differentiated experience assurance. He emphasized that China Mobile achieves this by offering differentiated network capabilities tailored to user groups, service types, and application scenarios. By doing so, they guarantee service quality across multiple levels, resulting in an explicit improvement in user experiences. The intelligent packet core network serves as the backbone of this solution. It will continue to evolve and refine its capabilities to deliver more tailored service experiences, and ultimately enhance the overall network performance and efficiency.
George Gao, President of Huawei Cloud Core Network Product Line, mentioned that the advent of the 5G-A era paves the way for operators worldwide to upgrade their networks and services. He pointed out that 5G-A core network intelligence is revolutionizing business models. With the intelligence capabilities provided by Network Data Analytics Function (NWDAF) and NEs, operators can optimize their operational modes and deliver users a real-time, on-demand service experience, and personalized connectivity services.
MWC Shanghai 2024 will be held from June 26 to June 28 in Shanghai, China. During the event, Huawei will showcase its latest products and solutions at stands E10 and E50 in Hall N1 of the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC).
2024 will mark the first year of commercial 5.5G, and F5.5G gigabit optical network deployment has already begun. Synergies across networks, cloud, and intelligence are set to give rise to pervasive intelligent applications and increasingly diverse user experiences. Together with global operators, industry professionals, and opinion leaders, Huawei will dive into exciting topics at this year’s MWC Shanghai, like how to amplify 5G’s success in the 5.5G era and how to tap into the potential of operator revenue growth to bring us even faster to the intelligent world.
