Xiaomi today announced a new way for users of MIUI Android devices to back up their photos and videos. Instead of using Google Photos separately, Xiaomi is offering integrated functionality for users, where they will now be able to back up their photos and videos from MIUI devices to Google Photos within Xiaomi’s built-in Gallery app.

“Xiaomi is continuously searching for ways to improve our software product experience. Google Photos and Xiaomi share similar values in aiming to provide a reliable platform for users and their day-to-day moments captured on their smartphones. Our cooperation with Google Photos will offer users an easy way to ensure their data is stored securely, while being able to easily access them across different devices as required,” said Quanxin Wang, General Manager of Product & Technology, Xiaomi International.

“We’re excited to be able to help provide Xiaomi users with an even easier way to back up their photos and videos to Google Photos from their Android devices. With all your memories together, Google Photos can help you easily search, organize, share and relive your best moments on more devices,” said Shimrit Ben-Yair, Vice President, Google Photos.

In addition to backing up content from MIUI devices to Google Photos, Xiaomi Cloud users will also have the option to easily move their existing backed up photos and videos to Google Photos. This feature will begin roll-out on existing devices starting in Singapore on October 24th, 2022 via app updates, with other markets to follow. Google Photos users have 15GB of Google account storage (shared across Gmail, Google Photos, and Google Drive). Users requiring additional storage beyond 15GB will be able to purchase expanded storage and enjoy additional benefits through Google One. Users who move their existing Mi Cloud content to Google Photos can take advantage of introductory membership trials with Google One¹ during migration that provide users with additional storage, starting from 100GB for 3 months, which also allows users to experience a preview of Google One’s additional benefits.

With a Google One membership, Xiaomi users can also enjoy a robust backup service, enhanced editing features in Google Photos, expert Google support, family sharing with up to 5 additional Google accounts, and other helpful features. Membership benefits will continue to evolve to bring a premium Google experience to Xiaomi users.
